We will cover targeted testing and how to get started using DNA to solve family mysteries.” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • Reconstructing Your Genetic Family Tree presented by Blaine Bettinger, Ph.D., J.D., Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 1:00 pm Central – “A genetic family tree is the list of genealogical ancestors from whom you inherited DNA. One of the goals of genetic genealogy is to recreate this genetic family tree through a process called “chromosome mapping.” Chromosome mapping uses cousin matches to identify which segments of DNA came from which ancestors, thus recreating your genetic family tree. We’ll look at the fundamentals of chromosome mapping and some tools you can use to begin to map your DNA.” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • A Guide to Third Party Tools For DNA Testing, presented by Michelle Leonard, Wednesday, March 6, 2019, 1:00 pm Central – “While all of the different testing companies boast helpful internal tools, it’s important to familiarise yourself with the many excellent third party tools that can aid you on your DNA testing journey. This presentation will provide an overview of all the major and minor third party tools available and will include practical hints and tips on how to get the most out of them. These tools can help with understanding, interpreting and organising your DNA results and, ultimately, can contribute to how successful you are in identifying matches and making family history breakthroughs via DNA.”  Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • An Introduction to DNA Painter presented Jonny Perl, Wednesday, April 3, 2019, 1:00 pm Central – “DNA Painter is a website that aims to help demystify your DNA matches. This talk will introduce the site’s features and tools for chromosome mapping and relationship prediction. The concept of chromosome mapping will then be discussed, with detailed examples of how the site can be used to visualize your matches and help to identify how you are related to each match. This will cover both basic and advanced operations, revealing features and functionality you might not have noticed.” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • How to Use Autosomal DNA to Resolve Historical Paternity Cases presented by Ugo Perego, Wednesday, May 1, 2019, 1:00 pm Central – “All of us are aware that DNA testing is a formidable tool to address paternity cases. However, when talking about paternity testing, the subjects tested are all alive and willing to provide a DNA sample. The normal procedure involves testing the alleged father, the mother and the child. However, what can be done if in our genealogical research we are presented with a similar instance, but that occurred 100-200 years in the past? What to do if the three candidates are now deceased? Is there a way to use DNA testing to confidently reach a conclusion regarding the suspected paternity? In this webinar, Ugo Perego will explain how to use Y chromosome and autosomal DNA testing as tools to unlock suspected biological relationships.” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • Lessons in Jewish DNA: One Man’s Successes and What He Learned On the Journey presented Israel Pickholtz, Wednesday, June 5, 2019, 1:00 pm Central – “The hottest topic in genealogy in recent years has been genetics and many thousands of genealogists have ordered DNA tests. Most of those haven’t a clue what to do with their results. The situation is more complicated among Jews, who have married “within the tribe” for hundreds of years, thus ensuring that everyone is related to everyone else, multiple times. Marrying within a closed community – “endogamy” – has barely been addressed by the non-Jewish genetic genealogy community. This presentation – as in the speaker’s book” ENDOGAMY: One Family, One People” – does not bring a “how to” approach, as every family is different. The speaker prefers a “how I did it” approach, demonstrating the successes he has had in his own families and the general lessons which are applicable to all genetic genealogy research. His goal is to inspire his listeners and readers to say “I can do this!”” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • Evaluating Shared DNA presented by Paul Woodbury, Wednesday, July 3, 2019, 1:00 pm Central – “DNA testing companies estimate the nature of your genetic relationships to DNA cousins based on the types, amounts and locations of shared DNA. Nevertheless, their estimations are typically quite broad. In this webinar, learn to analyze the DNA you share with genetic cousins to better estimate the nature of your relationships. Explore probabilities of relationship based on total shared DNA, number of segments, types of shared DNA, and relationships to multiple individuals. Navigate genetically equivalent relationships. Interpret shared DNA within the context of other available evidence. Evaluate proposed relationships and guard against the possibility of misattributed parentage or half relationships. Learn to better utilize genetic evidence in the exploration of family trees.” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • Case Studies in Gray: Identifying Shared Ancestries Through DNA and Genealogy presented by Nicka Smith, Wendesday, August 7, 2019, 1:00 pm Central – “You’ve identified a group shared DNA matches, but your stumped on how you’re all related. Learn how to let DNA take the lead in determining who and where to search to uncover the group’s most recent common ancestor.” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • Combining DNA and Traditional Research – In-Depth Case Studies, presented by Michelle Leonard, Wednesday, September 4, 2019, 1:00 pm Central – “DNA testing has exploded onto the genealogy scene in recent years and is now one of the most important tools available to advance family tree research. In order to successfully use DNA testing for genealogy, however, it’s essential to combine it with traditional research. This presentation will concentrate on several in-depth case studies that demonstrate what can be achieved when you combine long-established research methods with DNA test results. These case studies will cover verification of family tree lines, the breaking of brick walls, the testing of hypotheses and the solving of hitherto unfathomable mysteries.” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • Advanced DNA Techniques: Using Phasing to Test DNA Segments presented by Blaine Bettinger, Ph.D., J.D. , Wednesday, September 11, 2019, 7:00 pm Central – “Phasing is a tool used to separate your DNA into the DNA you received from Mom and the DNA you received from Dad. It requires a tested child and at least one tested parent. The benefit of phasing is that it allows us to test smaller segments which are sometimes too risky to use. Learn how phasing and “Your Evil Twin” tools at GEDmatch can help you examine and test shared DNA segments!” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • The Stories Behind the Segments presented by Blaine Bettinger, Ph.D., J.D. , Tuesday, October 1, 2019, 7:00 pm Central – “DNA evidence helps us break through brick walls and confirm decades of research, while introducing an entirely new generation of people to genealogy. It also allows us to create maps linking specific segments of DNA to our ancestors. But how many of us stop to consider the story behind that mapped segment of DNA on chromosome 13? Or the miles and years traveled by the piece of DNA on chromosome 22? Join me as I examine some of the amazing stories in my chromosome map!” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
  • A Day Out With Your DNA, presented by Diahan Southard, Wednesday, October 2nd, 7:00 pm Central – “While DNA testing for genealogy is no longer a new idea, many companies are offering a new way to look at your DNA. In this lecture we will cover the biggest and brightest options, and help you decide where you should take your DNA, and how to make the most of it.” Click HERE to register for FREE – via Legacy Family Tree Webinars
